Debris from Kamikaze Attack, 1944
The burned remains of pilot Howard Skidmore's TBM Avenger. The propeller was knocked off as the explosion rushed forward. Skidmore credits the deck crew with saving his life by pouring water on the flames while he and his flight crew escaped after a kamikaze hits USS Cabot (CVL-28) on November 25, 1944.
